Question by SullyTheStrange · Aug 06, 2013 at 05:25 AM · inspectorunresponsive

Can't click any script variables in the inspector...

I'm having a really irritating issue where the inspector simply doesn't respond to me clicking on variables and fields, which means I can't edit them. It happens more often than not, and the only way to fix it is to copy the component, then remove it and paste it back. Then it'll work until I click on another object and come back to find it unresponsive again. It's not impossible to work around it this way, but it's a big hassle just to edit a simple value.

I figure this could possibly be something wrong with my computer, since I can't find anyone else having this problem anywhere... I'm not using any custom inspector or anything, it's all default. In Unity 4.1.3 by the way, Windows 7 64-bit.

It's a longshot but I don't suppose anyone knows how I could fix this? I guess I'll try updating and hope that does it.

Can you reproduce this? So when you create a new script, give it some public variables and attach it to a new empty gameobject, does this still happen?

Do you have any custom editors for your scripts? Any background tools (like an Autohotkey script) running? For example my PDF browser plugin "eats" certain keystrokes from everywhere in the browser once it's open.

Where is your hosting gameobject located? Is it in the scene, a custom prefab or a model prefab?

It doesn't happen right away if I add a new script, but it starts happening eventually without fail. That even applies for Unity components like box colliders, only thing I've never seen it happen to is the Transform component. And it happens to any gameobject, prefab or not, in the scene or not.

I just use the default $$anonymous$$onodevelop for editing. That was giving me problems too a while ago, it would freeze and crash on startup, and the solution I found was to disable "Git support" under Version Control in the Add-in $$anonymous$$anager. Would that have anything to do with it? I don't actually know what Git support is, I was just happy it worked. :P

And I'm not sure if they would cause it but I'm using 2D Toolkit and 2D mesh based volumetric lights. No one else has reported an issue though, and I've been using them for two months and three weeks respectively without an issue. Other than that I can't think of anything unusual interfering.
