Question by Patyrn · Mar 16, 2011 at 03:03 AM · particlessmoke

Muzzle smoke puff particle effect.

Any suggestions on this? I can't seem to create an effect like I want.

I'm trying to get a very fast burst of smoke which shoots out extremely quickly then rapidly decelerates and expands before slowly fading. Here is an example:

I experimented with damping, but it seems to be a linear deceleration which starts going backwards after stopping the forward motion of the smoke.

Try expanding the ellipsoid along z so the smoke instantly appears up to a few meters in front. The smoke in the video looked pretty instant to me (but hard to see with the horrible camera work.) Could also use a child emitter to make the expanding (Grow in the animator) fluffy smoke (edit the alpha in the 5 colors.)

The problem is I can't make it scale from small to large using the ellipsoid.

Are you having trouble with just the time duration or the particle system? If its just duration try "one shot" its near simulate in world space. It creates each particle once and then stops which is perfect for puff effects. Ps its a check box.
