Question by jmschuaquico · Sep 02, 2013 at 10:02 AM · shadowsfree-versionsoft

Is it possible to code soft shadows in Unity Free?

I was wondering if it was possible using custom shaders maybe? If it is possible, why can't I see any available in the Asset Store?

Can anyone give me guidance on how to do soft shadows in Unity Free? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I really don't think there is a way to get soft shadows with code in Unity free but if you light map the scene once your terrain assets are in place you can get shadows. That just affects the trees and terrain though.

I need real-time soft shadows. So i guess the only option is to get a Pro version?

Pro isn't the only way to go. if you know how to modify autolight.cginc, you can hack in 4-tap filtering, perhaps even more.

if you are willing to, for a MUCH CHEAPER price, (and no need for shader knowledge!) give shadow softener a try: trust me, shadow softener is awesome quality comapred to even unity soft shadows!
