Draw to texture

I have a 3d plane I need to draw some text on, how do I do it?
I thought about drawing on gui layer of camera that draws into a texture used by the plane, but this seems like more of a workaround then solution.

Off-topic: ripping other people's sites(StackExchange) is bad.

Off-topic: As far as i know the Q&A engine uses by Stackoverflow & co is released under the cc-license (creativecommons). There are even tons of opensource versions of Q&A engines out there. http://www.enfew.com/9-free-stackoverflow-clones-and-qa-scripts You can't just "rip off" a website because you can't copy the php scripts (except they provide them from downloading).

Off-topic: Insulting the site you then ask for answers from is bad.

You have a couple of options. The best is to simply create a texture containing the text you need to put on the plane, then assigning that texture to the plane.

Alternately, you could use a projector to project the text onto the plane.

I need the texture to be dynamic, to be able to change the text in the code

Then you'll want to use a 3D text object and place it just above the plane. You can edit the contents of a 3D text object dynamically.
