My question is how would you make variations of the same tree while maintaining the same texture/materials? For example if you duplicate a tree and modify some parameters it affects both trees...

Ditto, I also would like an answere to this. I made trees for one level of my game and then in my next level I thought I would experiment with the tree setting a little and it changed all of my previous trees from my first level even after I had changed the name of my new tree to Big tree 02 before making any changes... very anoying because I had my first level trees just perfect and now they are all pooched!! Grrrr..
