Question by hsolter · Sep 28, 2013 at 08:12 PM · localposition

Local to world space

I am trying to implement a formation pattern in unity where offset to the leader is defined as Voff = ( vx,vz)in the local space and an optional rotation Ropt (let's say difference in degrees from the leader's rotation)as shown in the terrible figure below. I am not sure how to move the follower to the desired point and set his rotation using unity's features.Is there a common way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of different ways to create this relationship. Which one is best and which one(s) will work will depend on the nature of the relationship and how you are moving the objects. The easiest is a parent child relationship and works well if you are moving the object my directly manipulating the transforms. $$anonymous$$ake the follower a child of the leader. Then you can set the Transform.localPosition to set the offset. You can use Transform.localRotation to set the optional rotation.

I don't know if this helps

//This will always be Local transform.position += transform.right someNumber Time.deltaTime;

//This will always me in world space var newVector = new Vector3(1, 0, 0) Time.deltaTime someNumber; transform.position = transform.position + newVector;
