Question by Nate 2 · Mar 31, 2011 at 03:20 PM · custom-shader

Shader Question

I'll just get right to the question. I have been requested in my class to create a glass shader, that takes dynamic light. Doing any really fancy glass effects would probably be complicated and far beyond me. But I was wondering if it is possible to have dynamic lighting picked up by the alpha of shader. Because I have noticed when it is alpha it ignores everything. Is it possible to make that alpha kinda shine when light hits it?

Don't describe your problem in terms of shaders, then. Describe it in plain English and let us see if we can adapt that. And why would you be requested to do something you have no idea how to do?

If the whole thing is glass, try a prewritten shader that uses specular somehow, and jack the values way up. If you have parts of your model as shiny glass, look for a shader taking a specular map. A spec$$anonymous$$ap is a grey scale of the "shiny" parts -- typically used to paint the metal parts of a texture so only they shine. I didn't see any of them in Standard Unity assets.

no body knows how to do i was just the one who was told to do it. And i need to make a shader to be used for glass. I need the light to show up on the invisible parts of the glass object making it shine.
