Question by meta64 · Oct 17, 2013 at 05:21 AM · shootersimple

Anyone know how to make a first person shooter?

I downloaded the free version of unity, opened it up, and decided that this will be impossible. I have a mac, pre-schoolers knowledge of scripting, and want to make a simple fps with inventory, enemies, weapons, and everything Can anyone help me??

This is a really broad question that's going to be difficult for people to answer.

Plenty of people have made FPSs though, I'd suggest Googling "unity fps tutorial", there's a ton of tutorials out there.

Start a tutorial to understand some basic concepts. If you grow tired of it, just put it aside and do stuff yourself! think about what you want to achieve next: $$anonymous$$aybe you would like to find away to make your character move forward and turn, basic stuff. Just search here on UA or whereever for ways other people did this, and copy their methods. Then, you can get to tinkering, modifiyng code to suit your needs.

You know what they say, "your first ten games will suck". It's not neccessarily true, they will suck if you give up on each after two days work. If you put a month's worth of manhours into it, it may become decent for beginner standards. Remember though, that you won't know everything at the start, and your code will be cumbersome and unoptimized at first, but slowly you will learn the tricks of the trade. It wasn't until I began my second project that I even knew how to use arrays and for loops :) So just go out there and build stuff! :)
