Question by dissidently · Apr 02, 2011 at 08:24 PM · fontinterfaceuser

What fonts does the Unity Interface use?

Minimal. In all the right ways. But I can't figure what they are.

By "Unity Interface" I mean the Inspector, Hierarchy etc. Not the GUI.

It's not Arial. Arial doesn't have a flat base at the bottom of the 1 (see), while the font used in Unity does.

you can check by doing:

Assets > Create > GUI Skin

this will create a new GUI skin with all the default values and at the very top of the the inspector when the GUI skin is selected it will give the name of the default font

i think its ariel but i've edited mine so much that its probably not

No. I don't mean the GUI. I mean the UNITY interface. Like in the Inspector etc, what is the font that Unity uses?

The Unity Editor just uses the same system font as all other applications.

  • If you're on Windows, this is Segoe UI

  • On a Mac it's either Lucida Grande, Helvetica Neue, or San Francisco depending on your version of OSX

Until recently, the default Unity editor font has been "Lucida Grande". It was used throughout the editor, including the Inspector. The editor also used the "Lucida Grande small" and "Lucida Grande Big" variants in a few places.

Drop the following in an editor script running in Unity 2018.4, and it will output "Lucida Grande" in the console: Debug.Log(EditorStyles.whiteLabel.font.name);

You can see the font and compare the sample text here:

https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/lucida-grande/

The editor font was changed in Unity 2019.3 with the fancy editor UX update. According to a Unity blog post (Evolving the Unity Editor UX), the new font is called "Inter", which can be seen on Google Fonts.
