AI Car Steering

Hey guys, I got a little problem with the steering from my AI Car using Wheelcolliders

 void RotateToWithWheelCollider (Vector3 targetPosition)
     {
         
         Vector3 tap; 
         Vector3 trp; 
         float angle;
         tap = targetPosition;
         trp = transform.position; 
         tap.y = 0; 
         trp.y = 0; 
         angle = 0;
         
         Vector3 relativeDir = transform.InverseTransformDirection(tap - trp);
         
         
         angle = Mathf.Atan(relativeDir.x);
         
         wheelFL.steerAngle = angle;
         wheelFR.steerAngle = angle;
         wheelFL.steerAngle = 180/Mathf.PI * wheelFL.steerAngle;
         wheelFR.steerAngle = 180/Mathf.PI * wheelFR.steerAngle;
         
         Debug.Log (angle);
         
         
     }


So my AI is driving to some Waypoints, and I want it to steer when angle is higher or smaller than 0. And it works, but not the way I want. The Problem is, if angle is bigger than 1, the wheelcolliders get a y rotation of 90 Degrees, and that makes the steering unfluently, its for a short moment like a car crash.

I tried to get the angle not bigger than 1 with

 if(angle <= 1 || >= -1)
 angle = Mathf.Atan(relativeDir.x);

But it doesnt works...

Please, anyone got a solution for this problem?
