3D Text fading out

Hey guys, I am currently trying to make my tutorial level of a game, and I have 3D text in place for it. After a player does a certain thing, then the 3D text can go away, and what I have been using is this line of code for that: TUT.renderer.enabled = false; which looks just plain ugly when it suddenly disappears. Is there a way to instead make it fade away?

This works fine for fading 3D text.

If my knowledge is correct, you can apply shader's to 3D-Text. I believe Unity has some built in alpha shaders so you can simply apply the shader to the text and then whip up a little script to change the alpha variable over time.
