Does Unity support reading in collider info from 3D model file?

This is a 3D model pipeline question really. I'd like to be able to create a 3D model, but at the same time, add the primitive colliders. I've done this in the past by simply reserving an LOD of the model as the "physics volume layer" and so when the model was read in, we could attach the appropriate primitives for collision detection. What is the best way to do this in Unity so that the modelers can define the model geometry and also the primitive volumes for the collisions? Do we need to have separate files that we correlate somehow and then we can treat the collision model file special and create the collision volumes from there and attach it to the game object? What's the "best" way to do this...or pros/cons of whatever process?
