Unity 4.3 Editor Weirdness?

So there are a couple things that are going very strangely with the unity editor for me. One, there is no rotational gizmo at the top right of scene view, to get it to appear i have to hit TAB+2 which makes me rotate and by extension it appears. Nextly it doesnt let me rotate the sceneview camera, ALT+rightclick is pan, CNTRL+right click is zoom and rightclick is also pan. Lastly when im working with code in monodevelope and i get a compiler error, it wont tell me what that error is. Normally theres a red exclamation mark at the bottom of the screen with a brief explanation of the error but i dont have that anymore.

This has only really been a problem since starting with 4.3, but maybe its coming from a different area entirely, some settings options that im not aware of? Ive looked over the unity guides on how to use these functions and they've been exquisitely unhelpful, does anyone know what im doing wrong?
