Animating specific part of model in Unity

Hello, I have created a spider model in Maya. I am new to animating, so I am here seeking a little guidance. My goal is to be able to move each leg of the spider independently, so that they can realistically (and dynamically) follow the intersections or threads of a web, as a real spider would do. So my questions are:

A) Is it possible to animate each part of a model independently, from within the Unity API?

B) If it is possible, must I create each independently moving model (ie. each leg) as a separate model, and then piece them together within Unity as children of the parent body or something along those lines?

C) Any advice on approaching this problem?
