Question by MercenaryGamer18 · Dec 23, 2013 at 06:14 PM · item pickupobjective

How to add a simple objective and ending?

Hi, I know this will be such a noob question, but can someone please help me, I want to create a game where you have to find an item or item(s) then head for a certain area which will end the game. I finished the game map, its just the ending now. (If its a area to head for then the exit, like head there then head there) but the item one would be more better, oh and how can you make the item be able to be picked up. Thank you.

I am not trying to be short or diss you, but I think it would be useful to know;

How much coding do you already know? This should be something like:

Item:

  1. A trigger for the item.

  2. Destroy the item on trigger.

  3. Tell player objective is completed.

Goal:

  1. A trigger for the exit.

  2. Ask player if objective is completed on trigger.

  3. End game if objective was completed.

If you are very new to program$$anonymous$$g, perhaps you should start by figuring out how to solve a single task on that list. Each will have its own problems to solve. If you know no program$$anonymous$$g, I think you should start learning some basic program$$anonymous$$g first. There are tutorials on Unitys new Learn section.

If you know program$$anonymous$$g, you should then start figuring out which of the steps are hard for you to solve and try and solve them yourself with the help of documentation, or revise your question to be more specific and self contained. Chances are that one question in isolation already have been asked and answered before.

What I mean is, I know that a script is needed, I need the script, I know about colliders, I'm just trying to make a game, the goal is, find the item, then go the end zone/collider. I need the script for item pick up, the objective script and finally the ending script. I tried some of the turorials on youtube, but they don't help much, so I figured that I'd ask from the experts, its been 3 months for me to figure this out. Please, help, if you can.

So... None?

I'd recommend that you start here. These tutorials should help. They are made by Unity.

Or you can wait and see if someone helps you write those scripts, that is a possibility too.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount Statement's advice. Nobody here is going to write code for you. If you want to make a game then you should,

  • Learn how by using the many resources available to you, a few of which have already been proffered,

  • Find someone who will code it for you (very unlikely, as those who can code are usually doing it for themselves or those who pay them),

  • Find a local group of people like yourself who are interested in making games and are willing to learn by doing,

  • Hire some contractors to do everything for you. Expect to pay ~$5-30k for a simple game.
