Question by VanZeng · Jan 14, 2014 at 06:59 PM · pathfinding

Is NavMesh now available on Unity Free?

Is NavMesh now available on Unity Free?

  1. I downloaded the Stealth tutorial project. It uses the NavMesh Agent. I run it correctly in Unity Free.

  2. I created a new prject and found I could add the NavMesh Agent component. Not yet used, just successfully added it.

  3. In 1 and 2, I cannot see any hint about XXX is only supported in Unity Pro.

Does that mean it's now for free?

yes of course it means its free in Unity 4.x series. As a freind i would rather suggest deleting this question as some may find this in appropraite and might down vote it

Thank you Deltamish. And it's very kind of you to give me the advice. But I don't think I should delete this question because, 1. I didn't crack the Nav$$anonymous$$esh feature. Unity released it. If the feature is now for free, that's because Unity likes to make it free. 2. If Unity has some feature for free, it's definitely good to be known by as many as its users. So everybody can use it, and enjoy making games.

VanZeng, I must THAN$$anonymous$$ YOU!, i never realized Nav$$anonymous$$esh was free on Unity4, also thanks to deltamish for the clarification, I was making my own navigation system but it took a while and it has less features than the Nav$$anonymous$$esh, so I must play a while with Nav$$anonymous$$esh, Thanks again both of you, I upvoted, but deleting the question would be a wise choice

No,no what i meant @VanZeng all i meant was as a moderator i cam across one such down voted question( no i didnt do it.I came to know about that when the user used answer to ask why and i had to decide wether to reject or publish it)

I just didnt want any new users to get a down vote and get a bad feeling Thats all

Sorry if i mislead you or sounded rude

I got it Deltamish. Thank you for your advice. I didn't know the moderator would delete a down voted question.

And another thing: I just found that the Nav$$anonymous$$esh is NOT FOR FRE$$anonymous$$ When open a Navmeshed project, yes, everything acts normally. But when I try to use feature, oops, I cannot find the Bake button in the Navigation window.

So, what's you guys' point? You found where the bake button hides?

Yes, NavMesh and pathfinding are no longer a pro feature, although this does not appear to have been properly updated in the reference manual yet. Off Mesh Links by the way are still a pro feature.

It is free, you probably didn't select the terrain also it needs to be static

I thought so too, but, in my case, i didn't notice that the "bake" button was on the lower side of the window, and not just bellow the other buttons, like the manual image had me belive.

Yes. NavMesh was one of several features that became available to free licence users in the Unity 4.2 update released in July 2013 (alongside publishing to Android/iOS, and hard shadows for directional lights). It was announced on the Unity blog and in the release notes for version 4.2.
