Edit Animation Curves externally

I would love to know if it's possible to create Animation Curves in any fas$$anonymous$$on other than in the editor offline.

I would like to generate these curves programmatically, and then store them for use in the editor with the new Mechanim editor for animation blending.

Any help in any regard is welcome, or even some documentation on the format they're stored in or anyt$$anonymous$$ng.
