How to create GUI like AngryBirds?

I want to create a GUI like Angry BIRDS game for example when you press the pause button on the top of the screen, a menu comes from the left side with all the options. Please tell me how this could be done.

Any help would be appreciated.

have 3d GUIText objects and 3d image objects, move them when needed, NGUI or EZGUI are good options, I think each one is $99, or build your own

I cannot afford that much of money. Can you tell me how to do it. if possible write the code.
