Interaction with child objects

Is there a way you can trigger a script on a child object,

when you click the child object?

...I have tried to attach a script to a child object, then run my project and clicking it, doesn't work.

Easy. Two ways you could do this, possibly more but two simple ways.

First, you could use a Raycast. That will be able to determine which object you are clicking, and do something to it (like trigger a script)

Second, you could use the function OnMouseDown, but you would have to attach the script to the clickable object, and it would only work for that one object.

Note: The JavaScript and C# versions of the scripts will be written below in the comment section.

On$$anonymous$$ouseDown (attached to clickable object), for use on that one object only...

C#:

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class ObjectDetect : $$anonymous$$onoBehaviour {

     void On$$anonymous$$ouseDown () {

         //Do Your Thing Here

     }
 }

JavaScript:

 function On$$anonymous$$ouseDown () {
      //Do Your Thing Here
 }

Next, is a Raycast (applied to a "Detector" object), for use on any clickable object...

C#:

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class ObjectDetect : $$anonymous$$onoBehaviour {

     void Update () {
         if (Input.Get$$anonymous$$ouseButtonDown(0))
         {
             RaycastHit hit;
             Ray ray = Camera.main.ScreenPointToRay(Input.mousePosition);

             if (Physics.Raycast(ray, out hit))
             {
                 Debug.Log(hit.collider.name);
             }
         }
     }
 }

JavaScript:

     function Update () {
         if (Input.Get$$anonymous$$ouseButtonDown(0))
         {
             var hit : RaycastHit;
             var ray : Ray = Camera.main.ScreenPointToRay(Input.mousePosition);

             if (Physics.Raycast(ray, hit))
             {
                 Debug.Log(hit.collider.name);
             }
         }
     }

Hope it helps! If you see any errors, please let me know!

Happy Coding!

Noah.
