Question by Alexey Kryshen · Mar 10, 2014 at 07:33 AM · performancesoundfullscreen

Fullscreen bad performance and sound issues (standalone player)

Hello,

We create standalone build of our product with Unity 4.3.4. When we run it in windowed mode the performance is good, but when we run it in fullscreen mode the performance is very bad (video is jerky).

The other problem with fullscreen is increased sound duration (?!). We have a sound clip which is 243 seconds long. When we run our product in editor or in windowed mode of standalone build the sound duration remains 243 seconds as it should, but when we run it in standalone fullscreen sound duration become 8 seconds longer (?!) while there are no any audible artifacts during the playing (no cracks, etc.)

Are these known issues ? Are there any workarounds ? Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance!

Some additional info:

  1. Performance in Editor is good, no problems with sound

  2. We run windowed mode with window covered all screen (so resolution the same for windowed and fullscreen modes - it can't be performance issue due to the different resolution)

  3. We try 2D and 3D sounds, both has an issue in fullscreen mode

  4. We run ATI Crossfire (2 x R9 290X) with latest stable drivers

  5. DX11 standalone builds performs worse in fullscreen than DX9 builds

  6. VSync is disabled

  7. Any quality settings has problem with fullscreen performance (in windowed mode we have good performance up to and including Fantastic quality)

[EDIT #1]

The problem with sound is like somehow pitch for sound set to value < 1.0, so duration is increased. We have animation and sound for this animation with conformed duration. The animation duration still the same independent of performance, while sound duration changed. This is very strange behavior and we have no ideas how it possible.

You should deactivate features step by step to find out what the problem is. For me its not known issue. The longer sound duration can be because of the game run slower and affects the sound a little. Did you tried it on a different hardware?

We tried it on some other hardware configurations and seems all is ok.

In the build setup, for the fantastic settings, i changed the quality to not have VSYNC, and the performance loose in FullScreen with my Nvidia GTX 680m 4g its "solved". Any other way, when i run the demo it have performance issue in fullscreen.
