Question by Tanoshimi2000 · Apr 01, 2014 at 07:11 AM · videovideotexturequicktime

Anyone having trouble with new Quicktime?

I never bothered to install Quicktime before, but now I have, for Windows. It's version 7.1 or 7.7 I believe. Regardless, I've not been able to get any video to import correctly into Unity. Everything comes up black, no matter how small or what format I use. I'm thinking maybe Unity doesn't play well with the new version of Quicktime? But I'm not getting any errors.

I've also tried several smaller movies I've downloaded from the internet in various format's including .mov. Not a single animation shows up in Unity. All show up as black screens. I believe this is a bug/conflict with the new Quicktime.

QuickTime has nothing to do with it.. that should be asked on the apple forums. Itd be nice to know what version of unity your using, how youve set up this video texture (u may just be doing it wrong), etc.. your description of the problem is very broad.

The description here is very broad because I've already posted both questions and forum posts that were very specific, and got no answer. Since I've tried every form and size there was, I figured I'd eliminated Unity as an issue except as it interacts with Quicktime. Since, I've uninstalled Quicktime and went with an older version (2 years old) and am still having the same issue.

So, you're right, this is a broad question about Quicktime, because the specific question about the video has been asked 3-5 times already.

Still, I appreciate the effort. At least someone responded.

Hello. Unity doesn't play movieTextures as default. you should put a script on the object that has the movieTexture material. Use this:

 public class MovieScript : MonoBehaviour {

     public MovieTexture mainTex;

     void Start () {
         mainTex = (MovieTexture)renderer.material.GetTexture("_MainTex");
     }

     void Update () {
         mainTex.loop = true;
         mainTex.Play();
     }
 }

hope it helps :)

Thanks for reminding an idiot of something basic! That did the trick.
