Question by Chris_Shields · Apr 10, 2014 at 09:27 AM · dllunity plugin

Why does my external dll not get seen in my Unity Project

Ok, so I have done a lot of reading on the unity site to get this to work. I have a thesis project that I am doing in relation to motion sensors. In this case Im using the leap motion. I have managed to get the dll's from the leap motion SDK in and working. Now I am also working with 2 fellows who are developing an interface they hope will be used with motion sensors in the future. So they've built me an API of sorts and sent me dll file built with .NET 3.5 (We've like triple checked this). I have tried to include this dll in the Assets folder in a folder called plugins/plugin/etc... and by itself and a 100 other ways and when I load up VS2013 and check in the references it sees everything that should be there except the Erghis.dll. Now I can add it manually but then I have to manually add it every single time I sync my scripts or reload the project.

There must be something I'm missing or a better way to do this. Why won't Unity recognize this dll as part of the project automatically?

ya you are missing something... the reference!

sorry!, Use Monodevelop better! it would avoid these issues!

I can't stand MonoDevelop, not after using VS for a long time. MD sits there and complains about me not having capitalized some of my variables yet can't detect a fault in the code. As well as monodevelop has no luck seeing my dll either.

Hmmm, how and where would I begin to troubleshoot? I am not the one who compiled the dll but I have confidence that the guy who is doing knows what he's doing. Unless he doesn't ;). But how would I who have no access to the dll otherwise be able to troubleshoot?

my guess is it is not getting included in the library, since it doesnt work in mono too, my suggestion is to backup the project, delete library and try to open the project. This way library would be forced to recreate!
