Question by NickP_2 · Apr 29, 2014 at 03:09 PM · touchguitextureapp

Check if touch position is NOT on GUITexture

Is there an easy way to find out of the players input touch is NOT on a GUITexture?

In my game, the player jumps when the player touched the screen, but when the player touches a button, he also jumps.

I can solve this with some codes across classes, but just wondering if there's a more easy method

Set a variable to true when the GuiTexture is touched and to false when is not, and before jump check if this variable is true or false. This variable can be in an script attached to the player or where from the jump is performed, and edited from the script that handles the touch of the GUITexture

Won't work since it acts at the same time when you try to pass the variable, so it will be too late

Ok, and what if you set a GUITexture that fits the whole screen with its alpha channel to zero (transparent) and a lower z axis value, and then the other GuiTextures over it (in higher z axis values). That's a weird trick but maybe it works. I don't know what happens when the user touches a zone with stacked GUITextures, is the Hit checked by all or only by the topmost? If the hit goes only for the texture with an higher z axis value you can use the background texture to trigger the jump and the others each for its purpose

In my experience it'll hit them all, the best solution i've come up with yet, it in the player movement script, link the guitexture and check for an inversed hittest: if(!GUITextureNotToHit.hittest(touch.positio,))...

You can do a ray cast from the touch position and ignore it if the first thing it hits is a GUI element.

use Camera.ScreenPointToRay to do the cast.

I get what you mean, but is it possible for a raycast to detect a GUITexture?
