How to get one object to track another along its x-axis

Hello,

I'm new to Unity and know very little about scripting, so I'm a bit stuck.

I have two objects, a ball and paddle, within a defined game space (a la Pong). The ball moves around randomly, bouncing off of any surfaces it comes in contact with. I would like to have the paddle follow the ball, along its x-axis, in such a way that it always deflects the ball when the two intersect.

I have have found various scripts, here and on other sites, written for one object to follow another, but have not been able to get any to work for my purposes. If someone could provide a solution, or point me in the direction of where I could find one, I would be very grateful.

This question is really more suited for the forums.

The objects have a transform component, with a position variable, that is a Vector3.

http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/ScriptReference/Transform-position.html

So it would be something like :

 // uJS
 paddle.position.x = ball.position.x;

 // C#
 paddle.position = new Vector3( ball.position.x, paddle.position.y, paddle.position.z );
