Problem starting Unity

When I start Unity, it starts importing the assets. It takes a while to load, and the application keeps randomly not responds anymore. Then suddenly, it starts again. I can still never get passing the importing assets part. I run on Mac OSX: 10.8.5 1.6GHz 1067 MHz DDr3 Not really sure if that is significant. Before, I downloaded few assets from the store. Slowed it down after the next time, but only for about five minutes. I have waited for thirty minutes now.

Not sure if it will help you - but slim down on assets as much as possible (anything unused or obsolete, delete it, or backup into another folder outside assets) and that should boost the import time significantly if you can cut out some stuff from needing imported each start.
