Question by SPIGS · May 27, 2014 at 09:09 PM · instantiateupdatevector3.position

Why is Instantiated object not updating variable?

I have an instantiated object that keeps track of the player's position using this code:

     public GameObject player;

     void Update () {

     Vector3 playerPos = player.transform.position;

          Debug.Log(playerPos);

     }

For some reason it's not updating the playerPos even though it's in the update method. Any ideas why?

EDIT: I believe something was wrong with the file itself, or the way it was being handled. I created a new script with the exact same code and it worked fine. Not sure what problem was.

Did you intend to create a new Vector3 each time you run through update?

I'm struggling to see why this doesn't work.

Have you assigned the correct GameObject to player in the inspector?

Yes. It seems to call the update method as if it were the start method. It tested this at different distances. Never changes.
