Add child to parent but ignore movement?

I have 2 game objects, 1 is the parent which moves around, and the other one is the child, including a GUIText. The GUIText game object has a script attached that follows the selected Game Object (sort of like a name above someone's head). Now what the problem is, when I make the GUITexture game object a child of the parent, it follows the gameobject by its transform.

Is there a way to completely ignore the parent's transform so that the game object does not follow it and moves only by my script?

You could create a single parent game object that sits at 0, 0, 0 in the world, then add your 1st game object you mention above as a child, and add the 2nd one you mention as a 2nd child (making them siblings instead of a parent/child relationship). Thus, your new parent allows you to group them together still, but there is not a parent/child relationship. I suppose if that doesn't work for you, you could set the child's transform.position every frame in the LateUpdate() method, in world coordinates so it ignores the parent's position.

hi , if u are making physic Objects , you can put a rigidbody to ur child to give him the Independency
