We have a 2D concept which has more or less been fleshed out we now have to create a vertical slice (game prototype). How do I work out how the level is going to work. Do I sketch up a level plan? Do I write a script and follow it? or do I jump into the Unity window and create as I go?
Please I’ll take any advice.

Stitch
I like to create a simple scene where I place all the elements and make sure they work individually. Then I turn them into prefabs, and place them in the real scenes.
Personally i would have a sort of base plan where you model your levels off.
After that write a scenario script that will explain what the player can do in the level and any of the storyline elements , pickups , unlocks etc…
My team and i usually come up with a level first and based on that we write our storyline.
But that’s more for the openworld type game.
Good luck on your project !
I recommend using a terrain, then add a 3rd person/1st person controller, play around for a bit, then see what you might like to add.
