Question by Mystic 2628 · Jun 04, 2014 at 08:14 PM · ragdoll

How to make a ragdoll stand up?

Yes I do realize, Ragdolls are meant to be a floppy pile of limbs on the ground, but I've seen this in a lot of games where the ragdoll only has ragdolled arms, head and possibly body. I would assume his body is not ragdolled yet because he hasn't flopped over yet. Either way, certain games like Toribash, Sumotori dreams and GTA IV. They seem to be able to do it, and I was wondering if it is just an easy setting you can tick or if it requires script or what?

A more detailed explaination? The ragdoll gets hit by a dragonball (why not?) but he doesn't fall over. He stumbles backwards and manages to stand back on his feet although it definitely wasn't an animated character because the character moves in a different way every time. How is it that his legs still have the control to raise him back up instead of just having no power at all and dropping the character to the floor?

I always thought that ragdolls were activated just before the character had to Fall.

As an example, middle of the combat, the Code realises the bullet already fired will cause the Characters death, so it enables the ragdoll, and in miliseconds when the bullet hits the Body, (Now Ragdoll), will provide that impulse to move or throw the body away.

At least I always thought it worked that way..

About your particular case, I think is possible to enable the ragdoll for a specific moment, and then remove it. Example: Explosion, miliseconds before the explotion the Ragdoll is activated, the body blows away. But the explosion did not drain his HP, so the character stands up again, (Using animations of course), ragdolls deactivated again.

Im not an expert at all, just wrote how I think it might work, just to give some insight.

Sorry I can not give you a more accurate answer. But I will look on this thread from time to time, to see if someone has a definitive answer.

;)

Yea. I had a feeling it'd be something like enabling and disabling certain body parts, but the problem is that the character seems to be animated a different way everytime.
