Question by MoldyMaggots · Jun 09, 2014 at 06:07 PM · textscreenshot4.5

When I launch Unity there is No text. Please Help!

Ok so I recently got the free version of unity 4.5 and it took a while to download and after I installed it and all of that I opened it and all of the places to type and stuff are empty. I don't know how this happened but I hope you can help me. and it freezes a lot. Also when you type Nothing appears but it works as if your typing, so I know its a problem with text not showing up. I got a pic.alt text

If you can't post a picture for whatever reason (you should be able to), you might want to link to a dropbox file ins$$anonymous$$d. Not many people are keen on putting their email up.

I had glitches temporarily like that and fixed it by changing the layout. (Drop down directly under your window close btn in the top right corner of the unity window) try to aim for one of the top three options.. I Guess it's a long shot if it's a problem since install.

Changed any compatibility options? Right click the unity exe and go to Compatibility Tab

Unity uses the Tahoma font, see if you have it installed. Perhaps use "Character map" program and see if it is there. If I don't have the Tahoma font then I also don't see any text. Although this was with Unity running on Linux using Wine, which does not have a lot of fonts at start. But it still may be the answer to Windows users.

But if there is a chance that a Windows user does not have the Tahoma font, then Unity Technologies should include it in Unity installer.

I do have the Tahoma font and it still is broken, thanks for the advice though. Also Unity $$anonymous$$onodevlop seems to work fine, so it is just the editor that is broken, so I have no clue what the bug is?

Then ask Unity Technologies for support, since this issue practically makes Unity unusable.

Ya you are right, thanks for trying though!

Be sure to report back if Unity Technologies are able to give you a solution and post that as an answer.

Looks like unity doesn't like your computer, or is missing some pre-requisites. Try installing unity on another computer, if you have one, if not, re-install windows and update fully.

Thanks.

I finally resolved this problem by uninstalling the fonts needed for unity and reinstalling the latest versions of all of them. Also, I think the Unity 4.6 update may have fixed this.

The only difference that I can see is your system font being too big. I have no idea about it but it's worth trying to lower your system font, restart windows and try again.

Unfortunately lowering the windows system font and re-starting did not work, thanks for the suggestion though.
