Question by TheGreenFox · Jun 18, 2014 at 09:00 PM · texturespritelayers

One 2d sprite with multiple visible layers

Hi, please excuse the terribly n00b question. I'm simply trying to understand how I may layer textures onto a single 2d sprite. Point in question, I want to draw a circle around a sprite when it is selected (like in an rts) and remove that circle when unselected.

How does this manifest? A sprite primarily consists of one sprite renderer. Can I add a new one in the inspector and switch it on and off via script? Or would this require two objects linked together ?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

regards, N

Multiple ways to do this.

  1. Create a second sprite renderer component and switch on and off as needed

  2. Create a child GameObject as switch on and off as needed

  3. Create a single GameObject to represent the cursor and move as needed

  4. Create multiple images for the sprite renderer and switch between them

There are advantages and disadvantages to each method. Choose the one that works best for your application.

Thank you for this. I'm assu$$anonymous$$g a second Sprite Renderer would need to be created via script as I can't find an option when adding a component to the main GameObject.

Thanks again :)

Well, I can find it under Add Component Rendering, but it doesn't allow me to have more than one.
