Help with GUI.Textfield

I'm currently making a game, where i need to have a command prompt (think windows CMD). Currently i'm taking input trough GUI.Textfield. But when a command is typed into the prompt it need to answer, for example if you Type "HELP" it would show you a list of all the commands. What would be the best way to handle multiple commands/answers? Normally i would use the if statements "if string == xxx" (i'm not a really skilled programmer) but that just seems like a bad idea for handling a bigger list of commands.

I have done this before... what i did is kept a "dictionary" of known commands.. i stored them as an array of strings..

.then i would use a regular expression to extract the commands from the input string... from there i would invoke its method... the advantage of this is that commands can take parameters such as numbers and names of items

heres some pesudo code

 string[] commands = new string[] {
 "Help"
 "Print"
 "InstallMcAfeeSupervirus"

 }
 //we take the input
 void iterate_commands(string input)

 foreach (string command in commands) {

 //Regular Expression Code
            Reg exp = new Reg(input, "my expression string");

             if((command == exp.match))

             Invoke(command); //only available if class ingerits from Mono

 }

this sort of outlines what it does... if your new to regular expression read up on thme here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/az24scfc(v=vs.110).aspx

also since they are rather annoying to build try this... its WinRar-type free. it helps with building regular expressions
