Question by mchmilar · Jun 25, 2014 at 10:00 PM · scene-loadingbuild settings

10 Scenes in Build, missing 2 in compiled game

Unity 4.5.0f6

My Build Settings window "Scenes in Build" contains 10 scenes (all checked-marked "on"), but two are missing from the compiled standalone game. Playing the game in the Editor, all levels load and play correctly, but the compiled game fails to load the missing two.

The Game_Data folder contains only 8 level files, named level0 through level7.

When the compiled game loads one of the missing scenes, the output_log.txt file has the message

Level 'Configuration' (-1) couldn't be loaded because it has not been added to the build settings. To add a level to the build settings use the menu File->Build Settings...

I have also tried loading by scene number, ie. Application.LoadLevel(9), which yields

Level '' (9) couldn't be loaded because it has not been added to the build settings. To add a level to the build settings use the menu File->Build Settings...

I have tried rearranging the scene order, and deleting and adding all scenes, but these did not solve the problem.

Does anybody have a suggestion to solve this?

I can answer my own question. I have figured out what I did wrong.

I have made an Editor script that adds a menu item to build the game. It calls BuildPipeline.BuildPlayer to do the work.

I had forgotten that BuildPlayer wants a list of .unity files that are the levels in the game, so I did not add two new scenes into the list. (This list is independent of the list in the Build Settings panel.)

Once I reviewed my script and saw the omission, I added the new scenes and all is working fine.
