Question by wjplaud83 · Jul 12, 2014 at 05:38 PM · mobilegameover

Trying to create a 'successful' game over screen.

Okay, I am neck and neck to completing my first game from scratch. My only problem now is that the game over screen does not show up after the player has died. This is the code that I have for it thus far.

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class destroy_ship : MonoBehaviour {

     public GameObject explosion_prefab;

 void OnCollisionEnter2D (Collision2D col)
     {
         if(gameObject.name == "ship_main")
         {
                 Destroy(gameObject);
             }
         {
             Instantiate(explosion_prefab);
             Destroy(gameObject);
         }
     }
     void GameOver()
     {
         if(gameObject.collider2D);

         Application.LoadLevel("Deadscreen");

     }

 }

Any help with this one? Thanks!

Semicolon at end of line 21 looks wrong. Also, your GameOver() function doesn't look to be called.

Actually, the more I look at the code the worse it gets. You have two calls which can destroy the game object (lines 12 and 16). Something not right there.

maybe missing an else too - line 14???

you're not doing anything with the Collision2D parameter in OnCollisionEnter2D either, just (sort of) trying to destroy the GameObject it's attached to...

is that function even called?

I also have this one (please, cut me some slack- again, I am a noob at all this, been studying for two months)

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class gameover : $$anonymous$$onoBehaviour {

     // Use this for initialization
     void Start () {

     }

     // Update is called once per frame
     void Update () {

     }
     void GameOver()
     {
         Instantiate(gameObject.collider2D);
         Application.LoadLevel("Deadscreen");
         if Destroy(gameObject);
     }
 }
