Is there something wrong with Unity's built-in pathfinding?

I'm about to start adding pathfinding, but I notice there are tons of third party pathfinding assets on the asset store, this makes me think that maybe there is something inadequate about the built-in pathfinding.

Is that true? Are there limitations I should know about? Are the third party solutions somehow better? Thanks

"inadequate" rather depends on what your requirements are. I've used built-in Navmeshes in several projects and have perfectly satisfied with them. To get features like off-mesh links you'll need Pro.

I believe navmeshes used to be a Pro-only feature, which might explain why there are several assets that do fundamentally the same thing.
