Clicking Paper

Hey all! I have this script to allow the player to click a piece of paper and a gui texture appears on the screen to allow them to read the paper. When I click the paper, however, it isn't working. Any help?

 var email : GUITexture;

 function Start() {
     email.enabled = false;
 }

 function OnMouseDown(){
     if(gameObject.tag == "paper")
         email.enabled = true;
 }

 function Update() {
     if(Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.E))
     {
         email.enabled = false;
     }
 }

Does the piece of paper in the game world have a collider attached to it? If you look at the On$$anonymous$$ouseDown documentation, it only works when "the user has pressed the mouse button while over the GUIElement or Collider"

In addition, why are you checking if(gameObject.tag == "paper")? Would you put this script on any object that is not the clickable piece of paper?

Finally, you can debug these kinds of problems by adding Debug.Logs to the part of the script where you think something should be happening. For example - add a Debug.Log to the On$$anonymous$$ouseDown to see if it's ever called, that'll get you a lot closer to your problem.

Is the script with the On$$anonymous$$ouseDown() attached to the paper? It should be, including, as Baste said, a collider. The tag checking then becomes irrelevant because On$$anonymous$$ouseDown() checks if the collider of the object it is attached to has been clicked on.

Perhaps you were thinking of Raycasts which can be called from a script not attached to the object being clicked.
