NullReferenceException

I know there are many questions on this forum involving this particular problem but as of yet I have been unable to find a solution to this. I have three scripts that control a turrets behaviour and field of vision and target acquisition depending on the faction of the target. Below is the faction script.

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class Faction : MonoBehaviour
 {
     public enum mFaction
     {
         TERRAN_EMPIRE,
         SALAKI_EMPIRE
     }

     public mFaction UnitFaction;
     private mFaction mUnitFaction;

     public mFaction GetFaction
     {
         get{return mUnitFaction;}
     }

     void Awake()
     {
         mUnitFaction = UnitFaction;
     }
 }

This script is attached to every single object in the scene and the values for the enum are set in the inspector. Below is the sensor script where the issue is occuring.

 using System.Collections;
 using System.Collections.Generic;

 public class Sensor : MonoBehaviour
 {
     private Faction factionType;
     private List<GameObject>mUnitsInSensor = new List<GameObject>();

     public List<GameObject>UnitsInSensor
     {
         get{return mUnitsInSensor;}
         set{mUnitsInSensor = value;}
     }

     void Awake()
     {
         factionType = GetComponentInParent<Faction>();
         mUnitsInSensor.Clear();
     }

     void OnTriggerEnter(Collider other)
     {
         Faction otherFaction = other.gameObject.GetComponent<Faction>();
         if(otherFaction.GetFaction != factionType.GetFaction)
             mUnitsInSensor.Add(other.gameObject);
     }

     void OnTriggerExit(Collider other)
     {
         mUnitsInSensor.Remove(other.gameObject);
     }
 }

This script is attached as a child and has a sphere collider. The problem occurs in the OnTriggerEnter method stating that object reference is not set to an instance of the object. This error pops up every time the turrret fires at the object, so surely it must understand the above script. Yet I can't seem to be able to crack the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If the turret script is also needed I will be happy to post that aswell.
