Question by AlecWFPF · Sep 20, 2014 at 03:07 PM ·

Why are my questions not getting posted?

I have tried posting a question over and over for my school project but it is not getting approved. Why? Is there any better forum?

Hi @AlecWFPF

I recommend you read the FAQ and watch the tutorial video.

Right now the Send Message feature in the moderation queue is broken, so it is difficult for moderators to tell you why your question is being rejected. The best you can do is leave your question open in your browser and hit refresh, though often things are rejected without comment. Here are some common reasons that things are rejected:

  • Questions asking for a script are rejected. If by chance they make it through, they often get massive down votes. Unity Answers addresses single, specific technical questions to help you write your own code.

  • Questions that are duplicates of frequently asked questions are rejected. The expectation is that you will search UA and the script reference for solutions before you ask questions. And you may need to combine the result for a couple of answers.

  • Questions that provide a list of functionality or a recipe without any coding efforts are frequently rejected.

  • Questions with titles that don't reflect the technical content of the question are rejected. Unity Answers is not just to address your question, but to provide a 'database' of answers, and the title is the most important way people find answers.

  • Questions with unformatted code are frequently rejected.

  • Questions that don't explain themselves fully or don't provide enough context for an answer are rejected.

  • Questions that are not Unity related are rejected.

  • Questions that don't have a specific solution...that are design/discussion questions...are rejected and sent to Unity Forums.

  • Questions with multiple technical issues are frequently rejected. Unity Answers is looking for a a single, specific issue.

The following helps get questions accepted:

  • Including a code attempt for your functionality.

  • Showing you've done some research. This may include use of termonology, links to reference pages or links to other questions.

  • A careful presentation that gives a clear context for the problem. This may include, 1) the language you are writting in, 2) a video reference along with an time in that video, 3) a drawing, 4) a careful description of the setup such as 2D vs 3D or how an object is being moved if movement is part of the question.

I looked back three days, and this is the only question I see by you getting rejected:

Script For School Project

I am doing a school project and I need a script that I can put on a 3D model that when clicked at point blank range will play a sound recording.

Considering I don't know what you mean by 'point blank range', your question has six of the negative points and none of the positives.

Note that my long answer here is not to pick on you. I'm using your question as a forum for the many people who have your same question and are looking for an answer.

Good luck with your school project, and we welcome your future well-asked questions.

Well, questions which are not clear, or with script that is not formatted correctly get rejected. I don't know what your questions are - the activity shown on your account suggests 6 days ago you asked a question and participated in the site.

Um. Lol man. What a totally random approach to using Unity Answers.

Perhaps write a (well structured) question of your own ins$$anonymous$$d of attempting a hijack with no information :)
