Question by boribhi · Nov 28, 2009 at 09:58 PM · physics

how to remove bouncy behavior of a player (cube, sphere or ..) on vertically moving-platform?

I have a sphere as a player, I want it to "ride" a vertically moving platform but without bouncing on the moving-platform while the moving-platform is moving up or down. If there is a tutorial project, that is good. But, please be specific by showing the part of the script (if applicable) that solve this problem?

Edit: My sphere does not have CharacterController, and I tried the solution in 2D gametutorial but it did not work for me. I have managed to make the ball not bouncing on the moving platform while it is moving up, but when it comes down it is bouncing on the moving platform. if you try to put a cube from the 2D gametutorial on the moving platform the same thing happens.

See question for moving platforms few days back.

The solutions there assume you're using a charactercontroller. Don't know if you're using one as well.

Another solution is to have a trigger collider on platform, when ball hits it script keeps updating y position of ball to that of platform + radius of ball.

I second to check the other link out and keep the discussion there if you are using a CharacterController too.

Not completely sure if this will work, but I would try making a new physics material, set the bouncyness to 0, and apply that as the material on the collider of your player GameObject.
