Triggers from child being passed onto parent

Okay, my current setup is a parent (a cube) with a rigidbody (kinematic) and his box collider and its script then as a child I have an empty gameobject with a bigger box collider and its script, my issue is that triggers on the child also call the parents ontrigger, how can I make it so the parents ontrigger is not called for triggers on the child?

Edit: Okay so after a bit more hunting I added another rigidbody to the child (also kinematic) and for the most part everything seems to be fine and dandy, with one exception, at the object initialization the object appears to collide with itself with childtrigger being called once, and parenttrigger being called twice, in no particular order.

while overall this makes no difference to the way my game works it still puzzles me, and makes me wonder, is there any unforseen overhead to doing this, as well as could somebody answer why they collide at the beggining, it only happens during their enabling (these are pooled btw).
