Cant drag blender sprite into sprite renderer component?

I just saved a 3d model in blender by clicking ctrl + s and i thought it would work but its not letting me drag it onto a sprite renderer component, it just has the "o" with the / through it

UPDATE: I now know that the issue is a building error, when the sprite is directly brought into the scene, it for some reason shows me all the faces, vertices, and edges. also clicking the arrow next to the image in "assets" brings up a BILLION files, all of which are objects, bones, etc of the file.

Blender is a 3D modeller. Try something like GI$$anonymous$$P or Photoshop.

A sprite is a 2D texture. Your blender file is a 3d model.

You can't 'fix' that. They are two very different things.

Export an image of your model as, say, PNG. Then import it into Unity setting the texture import type to Sprite.

I mean what component lets you add a mesh?
