Question by Gregor.3637 · Jan 07, 2015 at 02:54 PM · mouseclick

Can elements have onClick.AddListeners

Hello. I`m quite new to unity, but previously I have done some games in Adobe Flash / AS3. My question is : is there a (easy) way to add MouseEventListeners to an object (not a UI button), like a simple sprite, and when that sprite is Clicked, we go do something. In AS3/Flash it would be something like this

 mySprite.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, goDoMyFunction);

     function goDoMyFunction( e:MouseEvent ):void
     {
          //do something here
     }

So far from what I have searched and seen - you handle this in the Update method that triggers on every frame. Which I don`t think its good for the CPU, because you check that every time. And if you have like 20 elements, I suppose it will check if those 20 elements have been clicked on every frame? (maybe in Unity its not that hard on the CPU ?)

It seems the simplest way to achieve this would be to give the object in question a Collider, write it a custom $$anonymous$$onoBehaviour, and use On$$anonymous$$ouseUpAsButton or a similar message to launch your on-click logic.
