Question by MapuHoB · Jan 18, 2015 at 02:58 PM · editorplayhotkeys

Hotkey for play (ctrl + P) not working properly

Sometimes when I click ctrl + P it plays the scene sometimes it doesn't. I tried to click on different places in order for it to run, for example over the game window, somewhere around the play button but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Even when I have already clicked on play with the mouse and then immediatelly, without commiting any other action, use the hotkey, it doesn't want to stop. All of this happens until I restart unity. Once I restart it it works fine again. What am I doing wrong?

Glurth just learned: you can press ctrl-P to play and stop the scene! cool! Glurth troubleshoots: Are you consuming or monitoring key-presses in your program? Perhaps your program is "eating up" the key-press? If this were the case: ctrl-P would only fail to STOP playing, but always work to START playing, even without restarting unity. Is this the behavior now?

No, I'm not consuming any key-presses in my program and also once it stops working it stops in both situations, quiting the program or starting it.

Well that eliminates that. I assume this happens for new projects as well? If so, perhaps we should look outside of unity? What is your OS environment? Or maybe your keyboard is dirty (or filthy, with bit's of potato-chips under the keys: like mine)- does the OTHER ctrl key work any better?

:d Well, haven't tried new projects cause don't have the time needed. This happens on an hourly basis, so don't feel like playing around with it for an hour at least or more to see if it happens to new projects as well but I think it does. As for the potato-chips under the keys there's for sure some :D:D but still not enough to block the input xD

don't have the time needed

Does Reloading the project, rather than closing and re-openeing unity "fix" the problem? If that doesn't fix it, what if you open a new project before closing unity? Does that fix it? (not solutions obviously, just trying to narrow it down)
