Getting Unity to work on Windows 10

Hi Guys,

I have been trying to get Unity to run on the Windows 10 Technical Preview but with no results so far.

Yes I have changed the compatibility setting to Windows 8 and Windows 7 but neither of them opened correctly.

All I get now is a pop up of a Licensing Issue.
It was a clean install of Unity Free.

Does anyone have found a solution yet?

I figured it out.
Delte the Unity License file so it doens’t know which OS you are on.
Then run unity and login with your Unity account and it will create a new lisence with Windows 10 as operating system and unity just works fine.

Hi all,

I know this is an older thread but it came out on top of a quick google search.

For anyone struggling to get Unity 5 to run with Windows 10 here’s a solution:

Right click the Unity icon - select Properties - select the Compatibility tab - check the Compatibility Mode box and select choose your old system. Repeat this for Monodevelop before launch.

Finally you’ll get a notification when you run Unity because your OS identification will have changed with the upgrade. All you have to do is follow the prompts and log in as normal.

Hope that’s of some use to someone out there!

For the Mono issue, you could also just switch to Visual Studio :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually am able to run it normally.
The only problem which I am trying to solve is Mono not opening automatically but asking me open with, the problem is that I couldn’t find mono’s excecutable file, so I am going to install it manually or try .NET maybe.
Good luck.
I would say that you may have not the NET FrameWork… ? I am not sure.

Here is how to run as administrator by default in windows 10

Right click on the program shortcut icon and click on open file location.

Now, right click on the main executable program.

Click on properties again.

Now, click on compatibility from the tabs.

Now, check the option saying Run this program as administrator.
