Question by TaxpoorRichard · Feb 06, 2015 at 04:45 PM · script loading

Need to know if onValidate called by script reload

I am attempting to create a prefab for a slide-in drawer. The drawer is a panel that is a child of a canvas. I am using a Canvas Scaler on the canvas.

I have an enum field that can be set in the editor to specify which side of the screen the drawer is initially positioned at and slides in from (Left, Right, Top, Bottom). I'm using onValidate() to position the drawer when the property is changed in the inspector. Here is the relevant code:

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class Drawer : MonoBehaviour {

     public enum DrawerPos{Left, Right, Top, Bottom} ;

     [SerializeField]
     private DrawerPos drawerPosition = DrawerPos.Left;

     public void onValidate() {

         float xScale = transform.parent.localScale.x;
         float yScale = transform.parent.localScale.y;

         RectTransform rTrans = (RectTransform)transform.GetComponent<RectTransform> ();
         RectTransform cTrans = (RectTransform)transform.parent.GetComponent<RectTransform> ();

         float canvasWidth = cTrans.GetWidth () * xScale;
         float canvasHeight = cTrans.GetHeight () * yScale;
         float drawerWidth = rTrans.GetWidth () * xScale;
         float drawerHeight = rTrans.GetHeight () * yScale;

         if (drawerPosition == DrawerPos.Left) {
             transform.position = new Vector3(-(drawerWidth / 2.0f), drawerHeight / 2.0f, 0);
         }
         else if (drawerPosition == DrawerPos.Right) {
             transform.position = new Vector3(canvasWidth + (drawerWidth / 2.0f), drawerHeight / 2.0f, 0);
         }
         else if (drawerPosition == DrawerPos.Top) {
             transform.position = new Vector3((drawerWidth / 2.0f), canvasHeight + (drawerHeight / 2.0f), 0);
         }
         else if (drawerPosition == DrawerPos.Bottom) {
             transform.position = new Vector3((drawerWidth / 2.0f), -(drawerHeight / 2.0f), 0);
         }
     }

This code works great when the "Drawer Position" is changed in the editor, however, when the script is changed, onValidate is also called but GetWidth() returns values that appear to be before the Canvas Scaler has scaled them and the drawer is incorrectly positioned.

Is there a way to tell that onValidate has been called because of a script reload or a way to tell that the rect transforms have been scaled correctly?
