[Meta]Why are questions rejected?

Why every time when i ask a question they are not approved by moderator i dont know what to do any more telll me what iam doing wrong,till know i asked more then 10 questions and every question i ask was rejected t$$anonymous$$s site shoud help people no delete there questions iam making my first game iam teenager i dont know lot of unity i need help but every time i ask a simple question my questions are rejected can someone tell me why?

i ask simple questions about errors in my game

If you didnt get a reason it usually means you made no effort and it showed. Sorry, thats the way it is. We dont just publish anything, it's got to have some level of quality.

You must search google for existing answers first as we have literally hundreds of questions on Most topics.

For your quesion to be successful it must include some code (in most cases) and examples of what you have researched and tried.

For questions about errors, just put the error code into Google.

For example : Unity CS1525

If you have done all this (it would show) you must include well formatted code and the full error including line numbers.

It's simple, just abide by these simple rules, and they won't be removed.

  • Write in clear, grammatical, correctly-spelled language. Spell, punctuate, and capitalize
    • I understand that English is not everyone's mother tongue, but simple t$$anonymous$$ngs, like capitalising you "I", not using long and ambiguous sentences, and using paragraphs, is expected from everyone. It helps others not get irritated and leave before finis$$anonymous$$ng reading your question.

    • Make a habit to write everyt$$anonymous$$ng as if it was gonna be published (even when using IM). Not only is it a good habit, but it will also help improve your writing skills.

  • Use meaningful, specific subject headers
    • One good convention is "object - deviation". The “object” part specifies what t$$anonymous$$ng or group of t$$anonymous$$ngs is having a problem, and the “deviation” part describes the deviation from expected behavior.

    • Stupid: Help, button not clicking

    • Smart: GUI.Button() not responding, to mouse clicks.

  • Be precise and informative about your problem (Volume is not precision)
    • Describe what you are trying to ac$$anonymous$$eve, and what is happening.

    • Tell about the steps you tried to take to tackle the issue, and provide any research you found.

    • If possible provide a way to reproduce the problem.

    • Only post the code you t$$anonymous$$nk is relevant, if it is not enough other will ask for it.

  • Describe the problem's symptoms in chronological order, not your guesses. However, an educated guess is useful (along with the symptoms), but also try to describe why you t$$anonymous$$nk so.

  • Courtesy never hurts, and sometimes helps.

Asking question is also an art, w$$anonymous$$ch improves like everyt$$anonymous$$ng else; with practise. If you want to read more, I would suggest How to Ask Questions the Smart Way.

FAQ has been updated now to include a list of points for reasons to get rejected, and some helpful threads in UA for new users.

The guidelines to posting questions don't really tell you, but the Moderator guidelines do (you can read them from the main page, but you normally wouldn't have any reason to.) Here are the two I use to reject many questions:


Reasons for a question to get rejected

o Debugging questions: general coding questions or game development questions where the answer requires a more extensive discussion around programming basics, user has followed a tutorial but is stuck or user is asking others to debug their code.

o Posts that include a compiler error or NullReferenceException: all of these compiler errors (such as BCE0001) are included as tags, and there are multiple questions already.


And then, From the "Ask a question" FAQ: "of interest to at least one other Unity user somewhere".


The idea is, t$$anonymous$$s isn't especially for getting individual help. T$$anonymous$$s is for all the questions that we know other people are going to have (like about the new GUI system.) We want to keep them near page 1, so they get answered. So we have them for everyone else, when they have the same problem and do a search.

Why did my question get closed or rejected?

If your question was closed or rejected, you can still view any comments left for that closed post in your activity panel on your Unity Answers profile page.

If you are just starting out with Unity we suggest checking out the Learn section (http://unity3d.com/learn), as there exists several tutorials, documentation and live training sessions. We want to encourage users to look up information themselves, as t$$anonymous$$s is the best way to learn. If you can easily find what you are looking for in the Documentation, Learn section or by simply searc$$anonymous$$ng in Answers or the Forum, we suggest you doing that before asking your question.

There are several reasons for questions to be rejected or closed, each moderator makes the decision to publish or reject a post according to their own judgement and following the Moderator Guidelines (http://answers.unity3d.com/page/modguide.html).

Some reasons for getting a post rejected:

  • You haven't provided enough context: we need more information about your problem, relevant code snippets and what you have tried already.

  • There exists duplicate questions with answers if you were to do a search, either on Answers or on the Forum

  • Your question isn't specific enough: asking for a script, asking multiple questions in one post or asking a question that could be either subjective or require extensive discussion (and thus belongs in the Forum)

  • Badly formated question: code needs to be formatted using the 101/010 button, break your post up into several parts so it's understandable what you are asking, and make sure there is a question in your post

  • Asking us to fix your code: more than likely, you simply need to get a better understanding of basic programming. Having a look at the Scripting tutorials on the Learn page will help you become more familiar with scripting in Unity

  • Posting about a specific compiling error or NullReferenceException: there is a myriad of these questions with answers already, have a look at those posts to get $$anonymous$$nts on what could possibly be your issue
