UI Mask script

I want to animate the the mask object, but not the object that is being masked, on a UI Panel. Because the mask must be the parent of the object being masked (an image, in this case), animating the mask animates the image as well. Is there anyway to fix the position of the image, and animate the mask over it, preferably without code?

7 years later and I'm looking to do the same thing. ( without scripts - as I'm more of an Unity animator/artist than a Unity coder/designer. Sad that this has been here for 7 years and no answer. I don't think I will ever find a answer on how to do this.
