iPhone Basic's True Price

I'm looking to expand my iPhone development portfolio (I am currently an authorized developer with a few apps already selling) into 3D gaming. I'm looking into some engine options to help make my life a little easier, and Unity came up. But I'm a little confused by the pricing. What does it take to get Unity's iPhone Basic model? The price says $399, but it's not quite clear if the base Unity license is also required. Can someone clarify?

A base Unity license would be free anyway.

It's just $399 for the Basic iPhone licence, because the basic Unity license is free.

If you want the Advanced iPhone License, however, you'll have to pay $1499 for the Unity Pro license, plus $1499 for the Advanced iPhone license itself, for a total of $2998. The Advanced license enables certain extra features, like socket support, plugin support, video streaming, and more. Note also that the Basic license will show a Unity splash screen in your app.

For a full list of the differences between the licenses, see this page.

If I can develop and publish on the iPhone for free, then what good is the iPhone Basic license. Also, where does someone find the free version? All I see are 30-day demos.

I meant that the Basic iPhone license is all you need to publish to the iPhone. You can download the free version of Unity on the website by clicking on the Store link at the top of the page, the clicking Download Unity.

It is just the $399 for Unity iPhone Basic -- no other license is required.

And that allows for app store-ready publishing, correct?

Yes, although it will display a Unity splash screen at the start of your app, which could be annoying.

That doesn't bother me at all. If it's as powerful as claimed, then I'd be happy to display that.

This is not correct. You ALSO need a $$anonymous$$ac with $$anonymous$$imum OSX 10.6.x and you need to be registrated as an Apple Developer which is further $99
