You're going to have to resetup your project in 4.x.x. The file formats for the project settings changed to 5.x.x+, information in the prefab format changed, etc etc etc. You will want to extract your scripts, models and all of the other bits and setup a new project in 4.x and rebuild the stack.

In the future you should not:

  1. NOT backup your project regularly with multiple versions over time. You can get free accounts for version control that allow your project to be private(bitbucket.org among others) and keep a version history. This will allow you to tag/branch major versions or roll back changes incase you want to get silly with your project.

  2. Update your IDE with out backing up, or during a push to market.

  3. EVER assume you can go back after a major version change in the software you use. Semantic versioning ALWAYS concludes the first number in the version is the major and is indicitive of breaking changes to the API or other components(Semantic Versioning)

  4. ALWAYS BACKUP

  5. ALWAYS BACKUP

  6. Clearly you should backup your project.

This happens to me all the time, all i do is go onto my anti virus (i have mcafee) and turn off Real-Time Scanning. it might be the same for other anti viruses.
