Add an object to a script through code

hello, I made an object through code and I gave it a script. Now my question is, how do I give that object with that script a paramter? just like I give object MyPanel a scripy MyScript now this script in an object has a variabel stuff. How do I pass this on through code. This is what I have at the moment to make the object and add the script.

 GameObject gem = (GameObject) Instantiate(Resources.Load("ButtonPrefab")); //make the object gem
 gem.AddComponent("factoryScript"); // I give it the factory script
 // give that object with the factory script a paramter

The easiest thing would be to use the parametrized AddComponent version, which gives you the added script back with the correct type and everything:

 GameObject gem = (GameObject) Instantiate(Resources.Load("ButtonPrefab"));
 factoryScript script = gem.AddComponent<factoryScript>();

 //the script variable is now the factoryScript you added in the line above.
 script.someParameter = someValue;
